Looking Ahead to 2013

Dear Friends,  Holiday Show I hope your holidays have been “merry and bright.” Our gallery doors are open through December 31, so make sure you come by and check out shows before they close. As 2013 approaches, I want to tell you about some of the great programs we have in store! After our annual gallery maintenance in January, we’ll reopen to the public on February 9 with all new exhibitions. We have a fabulous line up of shows and jurors on our Art Submission Calendar, available by clicking here. The 2013 calendar includes over $4,000 in awards for artists! Here are some more highlights for the year ahead:

  • The 5th Annual Woodstock Regional Far & Wide will be juried by Annina Nosei, the curator and dealer primarily responsible for bringing Basquiat and Neo-Expressionism to the forefront of the 1980s art world. Click here for submission info and deadlines.
  • Thanks to funding from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Milton and Sally Avery Foundation, we will continue our very popular Dialogues lecture and film series. Upcoming talks include artists Joan Snyder and Susan Wides, along with lectures relating to the Permanent Collection by curator Susana Leval and independent scholar Avis Berman.
  • Artist Mary Frank will give a talk in conjunction with a special exhibition of her work in the Towbin Museum Wing next fall.
  • The WAAM Permanent Collection will be featured in Towbin Wing exhibitions revealing the influence of Modernism on Woodstock artists following the 1913 Armory Show and marking the 40th anniversary of the collection started in 1973.
  • Join us for our 2nd Annual Benefit Splash on June 22. Last year’s silent auction and sale of “Little Gems” was such a hit, we’re doing it again! We also hope to see you at our 11th Annual Fine Art Auction on Sun, Sept 1, which always features great historic art of the region and many wonderful surprises!
  • Next summer, we’ll launch thousands of new images from the WAAM Permanent Collection and its partner organizations online at HVVACC.
  • We are planning several family events throughout the year, kids at waam along with exhibitions in the Youth Exhibition Space. And we’ll continue work with area elementary, middle, and high school students, thanks to support from the Helen Littauer Trust / Bank of America and other generous private support.
There’s a lot to enjoy ahead and many important projects behind the scenes. Your financial support helps ensure our staff and volunteers can make it all happen!

We wish you the very happiest of New Years and Health and Prosperity for you and yours.
Josephine Bloodgood

 Executive Director
