Far and Wide, the 5th Annual Woodstock Regional opening June 15 with a public reception from 4-6pm was juried by world renowned gallerist, Annina Nosei who is best known for being Jean Michel Basquiat’s first art dealer. Nosei also supported the early careers of several other internationally acclaimed artists including Shirin Neshat, Keith Haring and Barbara Kruger. Her gallery in New York was instrumental in introducing artists painting in the style that came to be known as Neo-Expressionism.
The exhibition presents 35 works by 21 artists from New York and 5 bordering states. The selected artists work in a variety of genres including traditional landscape, abstract painting, conceptual art, ariel photography and post-minimalist sculpture. Some of the highlights of the show are a series of three photographs by John Klienhans of young pool players in a Texas roadhouse bar, two engaging and slightly dark scratchboard drawings by Scott Gillis, infrared photographs by Jacquelyn Etling and an eerily moving tapestry by Helen Gold. Nosei will choose award winners for The Arthur Harris Best in Show Award, Nicholas Buhalis Award for Artistic Excellence in Abstract/Figurative or Figurative Work, The Sam Spanier Award for Works on Paper and The Kate Mariel Diana Award for Landscape Painting.
