Reidunn Fraas, a Norwegian designer and painter, and Harriet Livathinos, a Texas painter and businesswoman, both by way of New York City, moved to Woodstock in 1999, and found it a most conducive home for making art. Though they have been working on their art concurrently, this marks the first time they have had a joint exhibition.
The work of Harriet Livathinos in this exhibition is comprised of expressionistic landscapes and cityscapes completed throughout her career. They are all done in oil on canvas, and they reveal her underlying interest in expressive color and linear mark making.
Livathinos earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and Education, University of North Texas, Denton, TX, and her Master of Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking, Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. She continued her studies at the Woodstock School of Art, Woodstock, NY.
After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City, Reidunn Fraas became affiliated with the National Association of Women Artists and WAAM, Woodstock, NY. Her work has been seen in both group and solo exhibitions nationally, and can be found in private collections in Norway, Texas, Massachusetts, and New York.
Fraas’ work usually involves the development of large, abstract forms, woven into tightly knit compositions with radiant color harmonies. Her work in this exhibition is done with acrylic and ink on canvas, board, or paper.
