Recently, Beth Humphrey made her way over to Kinderhook to check out the new exhibition space created by New York gallerist Jack Shainman. The School, located at 25 Broad Street in Kinderhook is a beautiful renovated elementary school dedicated to showcasing artist represented by Jack Shainman.
The current exhibition, titled 5 Decades, features the work of El Anatsui – an internationally acclaimed artist who transforms simple materials into complex assemblages that create distinctive visual impact. This is a wonderful show and well worth the drive.
From the website: “Jack Shainman Gallery is pleased to celebrate the first anniversary of The School with a solo exhibition of work by El Anatsui, who was just awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, the Venice Biennale’s highest honor. Five Decades is a comprehensive survey spanning the last fifty years of Anatsui’s celebrated career, from compositions in painting, wood, and clay, to the magnificent metal works for which he is renowned.”
From Beth: “I really encourage WAAM members to get out and explore some of these new exhibition spaces here in the Hudson Valley, it helps us all as artists gain a greater perspective what is going on in the art world. For more information and directions you can go to Jack Shainman’s website”
